The patient's voice not as testimony. As a starting point.
A Patient Advocacy project listens to needs, difficulties and experiences and turns them into content, services and initiatives built together with the actors of the pathway.
The point is not speaking on behalf of the patient. It is creating the conditions for their experience to guide the project.
The clinical pathway does not tell the whole life pathway.
Two people with the same condition can encounter very different difficulties: access to centres, family management, work, mobility, understanding of information, psychological support, organisation of therapy and relationship with professionals.
These dimensions emerge only by listening directly to patients and caregivers and comparing their experience with that of clinicians, associations, scientific societies and institutions.
Patient Advocacy connects these points of view. It does not merely collect opinions: it identifies priority needs, builds common ground and defines interventions that produce concrete usefulness.
Surveys, interviews, focus groups and preliminary analyses to identify problems, expectations and differences between the various moments of the pathway.
Collaboration with patient organisations to design initiatives that are relevant, accessible and consistent with the community's needs.
Discussion tables between patients, caregivers, clinicians, healthcare professionals and other relevant stakeholders.
Translation of the collected evidence into objectives, priorities, activities and operational tools.
Informative materials, platforms, campaigns, events, educational supports and local initiatives developed on the basis of the identified needs.
Ongoing involvement of the people concerned, collection of feedback and adaptation of the project over time.
Organisation of the results into reports, publications, discussion materials and guidance usable by stakeholders.
Merqurio integrates research, surveys, medical writing, communication, relationships with clinicians and associations, organisation of Boards, multichannel campaigns and measurement.
The Costantinus project, dedicated to the diabetic foot, represented on the Merqurio site a concrete example of listening to patients through a survey and subsequent multidisciplinary involvement. The experience collected was used to develop guidance aimed not only at patients, but also at caregivers, physicians and associations.
